How do I purchase Renters Insurance?

You can purchase renters insurance whether it is required by your landlord/property manager or not. As a renter, you may not think you need renters insurance, but consider this: your landlord's policy does not cover your belongings. You don’t have to own a house to consider the place you live home. Assurant Renters Insurance allows you to protect your belongings if they are stolen or if your rental unit is damaged by fire, smoke, water, or explosion.

Renters insurance can be purchased when your landlord moves you in and in the process of onboarding. Log in to your account. You will see the rental and the option to purchase renters insurance and/or sign the lease (if required) right on the Dashboard:

If your landlord doesn't require you to purchase renters insurance, you still can. In order to do this, select the lease you’d like to purchase renters insurance for, then click on the View button > Get Insurance in the header of the lease or open the Insurance tab and click the same button:

The next step allows you to get a quote and purchase Insurance. Depending on the state, you will have to provide some additional information and enter the policy effective date and property type. The effective date is the date you want your coverage to begin. You can postpone this date for up to 80 days.

Please review the policy and endorsements for complete details, including limitations and exclusions. 

Kindly note you can add water sewer backup as additional protection for the place you rent. Coverage includes up to $2,500 in damages if a sewer or drain backs up into your home. A $250 deductible applies. If this option is selected, the policy price will be increased accordingly.

Coverages may vary by state. There are three payment options for your convenience. You can select annual payment, 4 pay, or monthly payment:

Select the billing address where all billing-related notifications will be mailed. If you'd like to receive an electronic copy of your insurance documents via email, select the Yes option and accept the terms of Assurant Electronic Business Consent by checking the appropriate box. If you wouldn't, click the No option. 

Carefully read all disclosures and check the boxes to continue. Make sure all the required fields are completed. Press the "Purchase Insurance" button.

Hooray! You have successfully purchased renters insurance and protected your belongings. You can find your policy in the Lease > view > Insurance tab. You can download the electronic variant of your insurance. Your rental community manager or landlord will be notified of the policy changes, as well as in the event of a filed claim.

If you elect to receive your policy documents electronically, you should receive an email within 24 to 48 hours after your policy is purchased online. Please note that incorrect or invalid email addresses will delay the delivery of policy documents. You should receive your policy documents within 10 days from the time you purchased your policy online.
